I’ve been working out in the garage quite a bit over the past few months.

During the summer, my wife asked me to build her a rustic style dining room table. In fact, at the time, I even made a blog entry about it. That table sat in our dining room for about 2 weeks before we listed it on Craig’s List. Surprisingly, there was a fair amount of interest. We sold that table, and shortly took an order for me to build a new one. As the summer progressed, I sold about 10 of these. Below is an assortment of the tables I sold.

All of the tables pictured are made of southern yellow pine.

Depending on the request of the buyer, I would finish the table differently. I sanded some more than others, while others received lighter, or darker stain. The stain pictured is called kona.

Some buyers requested different lengths. The table below was for a family from my church. They requested it to be 10′ long! I also built them two benches to match. The size of this table made a significant challenge for a one man job. Thanks to my wife for help me lug it around!

This table was requested to have a red mahogany stain.

Eventually, buyers were asking me to create brand new designs. After many emails back and forth with a buyer, I developed and built the table below. We called it the chunky table.

The nice part for the buyers was being able to have a solid wood, custom built table for an affordable price. The person who bought this table had a small dining space and only needed a 4′ long table. She was really pleased how it turned out.

Eventually, I was receiving so many orders, I couldn’t keep up!

As it turned out, I removed my posting from Craig’s List. Along with a few other projects around the house, I wanted to work on a mahagony dining room table for our house.

When time allows, I plan on building and selling a few more of these tables. This was a fun experience which introduced me to a new hobby. Stay tuned as I plan on posting about other woodworking projects I’ve completed.
