On this day, 30 years ago, Roger Staubach announced his retirement after 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. In honor of his career, I want to highlight some of Captain America’s accomplishments, here are just a few:
1963 Heisman Trophy winner
6 time Pro Bowl selection
Selected to the 1970s all decade team
2 time Super Bowl Champion
Super Bowl VI MVP
Inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor
Inducted into the College & Pro Football Hall of Fame
One of the most admirable things about Roger Staubach was that he was drafted by Cowboys in 1964, but went and served in the Vietnam War for 5 years, delaying his NFL career. He didn’t started playing for the Cowboys until 1969 at the age of 27. Pretty cool huh?
Even though I didn’t watch him play during his career, as a Cowboys fan, I’m proud to have Roger Staubach as a former Cowboy great.
So Roger, if you’re reading this, Kudos.
